'Jauja' è il quinto lungometraggio del trentottenne regista argentino e vede tra i protagonisti un intenso Viggo Mortensen, famoso al grande pubblico anche per l'interpretazione di Aragorn nella trilogia del Signore degli Anelli, insieme all'attrice danese Ghita Norby.
Il film è ambientato nel XIX secolo e racconta la storia del capitano Gunnar Dinesen (Mortensen) che va alla ricerca della figlia adolescente nella sconfinata Patagonia, dove sta avvenendo un vero e proprio genocidio degli indigeni. I paesaggi di questa grande terra sono parte integrante della storia, che è anche un viaggio spirituale nel tempo. Un film, che a tratti richiama l'atmosfera dei racconti di Jorge Luis Borges.
"Jauja" ha vinto il Premio della Federazione Internazionale dei critici cinematografici (Fipresci), nella sezione 'Un certain regard' dell'ultimo Festival di Cannes.
